Starlink at Best Buy: the $349.99 and $249.99 listings, and the return rule to check first
Both Best Buy listings with their dates, why we mark them unclear, how they stack up against starlink.com, and the return window you should assume until the store says otherwise.
We may earn a referral reward from a link on this page. How we make money.
Key takeaways
- Best Buy listed the Standard kit at $349.99 and the Mini at $249.99 on Oct 5, 2026, both read from search results and marked unclear.
- The Standard kit is 99 cents above starlink.com's $349 purchase price. The Mini is about $100 more than starlink.com's $149 starting price.
- Best Buy's window is 15 days for most items, but 14 days for activatable devices, possibly with a restocking fee. We couldn't confirm which rule covers Starlink, so plan for 14 days.
- A Best Buy kit is yours to keep, but the plan is still ordered on starlink.com and the kit never qualifies for the referral free month.
Best Buy sells both Starlink kits. On Oct 5, 2026 its site listed the Standard kit at $349.99 and the Mini at $249.99. The Standard kit is within a dollar of starlink.com’s price; the Mini is about $100 more than starlink.com’s $149 starting price. Before you buy either, settle the return window: Best Buy gives activatable devices only 14 days, and we couldn’t confirm whether Starlink is one.
Both listings, with their dates
| Item | Best Buy (seen Oct 5, 2026) | starlink.com (same week) | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard kit | $349.99 | $349 to buy (secondary source; not offered at every address) | 99 cents more at Best Buy |
| Mini kit | $249.99 | From $149, with a Roam plan, since Oct 2, 2026 | About $100 more at Best Buy |
Both Best Buy prices are marked unclear in our deals log. Best Buy’s product pages don’t open for automated checks, so we read the prices from search-result snippets of bestbuy.com. A snippet can trail the live page by days and won’t show an in-store markdown or an open-box price. Treat our numbers as a starting point and the product page or shelf tag as the answer.
We have no Best Buy sale on record. Our log has sourced Starlink sales at Home Depot and Walmart in November 2025, but none at Best Buy. That doesn’t mean Best Buy never discounted a kit; it means we have no source for one. If you see a Best Buy sale, a dated photo sent through corrections gets it into the log.
The Mini gap, in context
Starlink cut the Mini to a “starts at” price of $149 on Oct 2, 2026. Before that, it had been $199 (or $16/mo for 12 months) since Jul 28, 2026. Best Buy’s $249.99 is above both of those prices. Sources disagree on what the Mini’s list price was before the cut ($249 or $199), so we don’t call Best Buy’s tag a “was” price.
Store tags often take time to follow an online cut. We have no record of how long Best Buy takes, and we don’t forecast it. What you can do is check both prices the day you buy. If Best Buy matches starlink.com, the comparison becomes about returns and the free month, covered below. If it doesn’t, the Mini costs about $100 more on the box alone. The $149 Mini: what the price includes explains the Roam plan condition that comes with starlink.com’s price.
The return window: assume 14 days
Best Buy’s policy, as we read it on Oct 5, 2026, has three windows that could apply:
- 15 days for most products.
- 60 days for paid My Best Buy members.
- 14 days for “activatable” devices, and a restocking fee may apply to activatable items.
The open question is whether Best Buy treats a Starlink kit as activatable. A 2024 satelliteinternet.com guide described a two-week window for Starlink at Best Buy, which fits the 14-day rule, but that’s an older secondary source. We couldn’t confirm it on Best Buy’s own page, and the membership window may not apply if the activatable rule does.
Fourteen days is shorter than starlink.com’s own 30-day hardware refund for an undamaged kit. It’s enough time to set up and test, as long as you start right away. A practical plan:
- Ask at the register which return window and fee apply to the Starlink kit, and check the receipt prints it.
- Activate the same week. Check your field of view for obstructions in the Starlink app before mounting anything permanently.
- Keep every part and the box until the window closes. Returns usually need everything that came in it.
- Remember the two separate steps. Returning the kit to Best Buy doesn’t cancel your Starlink plan. Cancel the service in the Starlink app as well.
Our return guide for every store puts Best Buy next to Home Depot, Costco, Walmart and starlink.com.
What the Best Buy receipt does and doesn’t cover
The kit is the same hardware Starlink ships. What changes is the seller.
- You own the kit. No rental to send back when you cancel. Owned kits can use Standby, Starlink’s paused mode, which isn’t available on some rental kits.
- The plan comes from Starlink. You choose and pay for it on starlink.com. Residential started at $55/mo (100 Mbps), $85/mo (200 Mbps) or $130/mo (Max) when we checked on Oct 5, 2026; Roam started at $55/mo for 100GB.
- Address rules still apply. A one-time demand surcharge in busy areas follows your service address, not the store. A Best Buy box doesn’t skip it or any waitlist. See the surcharge guide.
- No referral free month. Starlink’s support page says kits from retailers don’t qualify.
A worked comparison
Here are two hypothetical shoppers, using only the prices above.
Shopper A has never had Starlink and wants a Standard kit for home. Best Buy: $349.99 for the kit. starlink.com: $349 for the kit, if purchase is offered at their address, and the order is eligible for one free month of service through a referral link. With a $55/mo plan, that month is worth $55. Starlink wins by that month plus 99 cents, and it has the longer return window. Best Buy wins only on speed: the kit is on the shelf today.
Shopper B had Starlink years ago and wants a Mini for the truck. No free month either way, because the referral is only for people who have never been subscribers. That leaves the box price: about $100 less on starlink.com unless Best Buy has matched. Best Buy wins only if it matches the price and B needs the kit today, or if B values Best Buy’s in-person returns.
Run your own numbers in the store vs starlink.com tool, which lets you enter the shelf price and your plan price.
Open-box kits and other variants
Best Buy sometimes sells open-box stock at a lower tag. We have no sourced open-box Starlink price, so we can’t tell you what discount to expect. If you see one, three checks matter more than the price:
- Completeness. A Mini kit should include the Mini with its built-in router, a kickstand, a pipe adapter and flat mount, a DC power cable, a power supply and a plug, per Starlink’s support article (read via search results). A Standard kit missing its router or power supply is not a bargain.
- Account status. A kit still tied to someone else’s Starlink account can be a problem to activate. Ask the store whether it has been released, and if you can’t get a clear answer, walk away.
- Return terms. Open-box items can carry their own rules. Ask, and get it on the receipt.
Best Buy’s site also lists bundle variants of the same kits (for example, a Mini “with cables” bundle). Compare the kit inside, not just the headline price, and make sure the comparison with starlink.com is like for like.
Checking stock before you drive
Best Buy’s product pages show pickup availability by store. That information can be wrong, especially for items that sell in bursts, so call the store or reserve for pickup before a long drive. If no nearby store has the kit, ship-to-home from Best Buy competes directly with starlink.com delivery, and at that point the faster-pickup argument for Best Buy is gone.
When Best Buy makes sense
- You need the kit today. Store pickup is the fastest way to replace a failed kit or get online before a trip.
- Best Buy runs a real sale below starlink.com’s price for your address.
- You’ve had Starlink before, so the free month isn’t on the table, and the prices are close.
- starlink.com only offers you a rental and you want to own a Standard kit.
When it’s the wrong choice
- You’re buying a Mini right now and Best Buy hasn’t matched $149.
- You’re unsure about your sky view. A 14-day window is tight if you need to wait for a roofer or a mount. starlink.com’s 30 days gives more room.
- You’ve never had Starlink and the prices are equal. Equal box prices aren’t equal when only one side can include a free month.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the 60-day member window covers Starlink. It may not if the activatable rule applies.
- Returning the kit and forgetting the plan. Best Buy can’t cancel your Starlink service.
- Comparing against old prices. The Mini’s starlink.com price changed on Oct 2, 2026. Check the price-drop history before deciding a store tag is a bargain.
- Buying from a marketplace seller on bestbuy.com without noticing. Check who the seller is; third parties can set their own return terms.
What we don’t know
- Whether Best Buy treats Starlink as an activatable device, and whether a restocking fee applies.
- Whether the shelf price at your store matches the snippet we read.
- Whether or when Best Buy will match starlink.com’s $149 Mini.
