What changed
Tesla North reported on Oct 5, 2026 that Starlink had announced, in a post on X that day, a 50% discount on Residential plans for customers in the Cameron County area of Texas, near SpaceX's Starbase headquarters in the Rio Grande Valley. New customers pay no up-front hardware cost.
Basenor, reporting the same day, gave the discounted prices: $27.50 a month for Residential 100 Mbps (down from $55), $42.50 for 200 Mbps (down from $85) and $65 for Max (down from $130). It says the discount applies to both new and existing customers.
Eligibility is decided by service address. There's no announced end date: the discount lasts while the address stays in the qualifying zone, Starlink can stop offering it to new customers at any time, and existing recipients get at least six months' notice before it ends, per Tesla North.
"Starbase, Texas is home to SpaceX's headquarters, and the Rio Grande Valley is where thousands of our team members and their families live."
Who it affects
Households with a service address inside the qualifying Cameron County zone, new or existing customers.
Everyone else in the US: nothing changes. The discount is tied to the address, not to who you are or where you bought the kit.
Existing customers in the zone: Basenor says the discount applies to existing customers too; check your next bill.
What you can do now
If you live in or near Cameron County, enter your exact service address at starlink.com checkout; a nearby town's address won't tell you whether yours qualifies.
If you're an existing customer there, look for the discount on your next bill, and contact Starlink support with your service address if it doesn't appear.
Outside the area, this isn't an offer you can get. Our deal expired or regional only page explains why area offers don't show at every address, and the deals log lists what is live nationally.
What hasn't changed
Regular Residential prices elsewhere are unchanged: $55 for 100 Mbps, $85 for 200 Mbps and $130 for Max, checked Oct 5, 2026.
Context
This is the second area discount tied to a SpaceX site in about six weeks: on Aug 26, 2026 Starlink began a similar half-price Residential offer in parts of Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, near the planned Starbase Louisiana. Basenor says similar programs have run near SpaceX facilities in Memphis, Tennessee, and Southaven, Mississippi; we haven't sourced those separately.
At $27.50 a month, the 100 Mbps tier is below every Residential promo price in our log, including May 2026's $29 offer, which lasted three months. This one has no stated end date for current recipients.
What we don't know yet
- The exact boundary of the qualifying zone; we haven't seen a published map.
- Whether the $0 hardware for new customers is a rental or a kit they own; the reports say only that there's no up-front hardware cost.
- Whether Roam plans are excluded, as reported for the Vermilion Parish offer.
- How long Starlink will keep offering it to new customers.
