What changed
Not a Tesla App reported on Jul 20, 2026 that a second-generation Mini, hardware revision "mini2_prod1", had entered production. The source is specs and hardware schematics posted on X by researcher Oleg Kutkov, not Starlink. We have this from one outlet, based on leaked material, so treat it as a report.
As reported: a built-in four-cell lithium battery with USB-C charging (11 to 24 V input), an antenna board slightly smaller than the current Mini's (225 × 273 mm against 236 × 276 mm), the same processor, integrated GPS set up for use in motion, and a transmit duty cycle cut from 75% to 11%.
No price, release date or battery runtime was reported. The outlet says there's no official word on when it can be ordered.
Who it affects
Anyone deciding whether to buy the current Mini, which has been $149 on starlink.com since Oct 2, 2026. A battery matters most for people who use the Mini away from a car or power bank.
Current Mini owners: nothing changes for the kit you have.
What you can do now
Don't wait on an unannounced product unless a built-in battery is the feature you need; there's no date or price to wait for.
If you buy the current Mini, starlink.com's 30-day return window applies, so check the Mini deals page for the current price, and the price history for how the Mini's price has moved.
What hasn't changed
The current Mini kit and its price: from $149 on starlink.com since Oct 2, 2026, or about $12.41 a month for 12 months, with a Roam plan.
Context
Some outlets have linked the Mini's cut to $149 on Oct 2, 2026 to a coming second generation. We have no source from Starlink connecting the two, so we don't.
What we don't know yet
- When, or whether, Starlink will sell it in the US, and at what price.
- Battery capacity and runtime; the leak doesn't say.
- Whether the current Mini's price will change when a new model arrives.

Mini kit cut to $149 on starlink.com
The catch: It's a "starts at" price. Sources disagree on the price before the cut ($249 or $199), so we don't print a "was" price.
