What changed
Broadband Breakfast reported on Apr 30, 2025 that Starlink was waiving the Standard kit's $349 charge for new customers who signed up for a 12-month Residential commitment, in select markets. Starlink announced it on X.
Monthly plans at the time were $80 for Residential Lite and $120 for Residential. Per the report, parts of New England and the Mountain West qualified, while the Midwest and Southeast were excluded. A 30-day trial with a full refund still applied.
Breaking the commitment, moving, missing payments or trying to transfer the equipment could trigger fees, and the kit had to be returned to avoid further charges.

Who it affects
New Residential customers in qualifying markets, from Apr 30 to Jun 25, 2025.
Anyone who might move or cancel within a year, for whom the commitment fees could outweigh the free kit.
Store shoppers: the offer applied to orders on starlink.com, not to kits bought at retailers.
Customers in excluded regions (the report names the Midwest and Southeast), who saw the regular kit price instead.
What you can do now
This is background; the offer ended Jun 25, 2025.
Today's $0 paths are mostly rentals rather than commitments; compare them on free kit offers, and read offers that need a commitment before agreeing to any minimum term.
If you took this offer, your 12 months have ended; check your account to confirm there's no remaining commitment before you change plans.
What hasn't changed
The 30-day return and refund window still applied.
Monthly prices didn't change for the offer: $80 for Residential Lite and $120 for Residential, at the time.
Context
This was the first $0 Standard kit offer in our log. Until then the kit had cost $349 since October 2024. The offer ended Jun 25, 2025, about eight weeks after it began; later 2025 deals were price cuts ($175 nationwide in August, $89 in low-demand areas in September) rather than free kits.
A 12-month commitment changes the math. If you cancel early, you pay a prorated fee for the months that remain, so a "free" kit can cost money if your plans change. For someone sure to stay a year, it was the cheapest way to get started at the time.
What we don't know yet
- The full list of qualifying markets; Starlink didn't publish one.
- Whether existing customers could use it to replace a kit; the report describes it as an offer for new customers.
