Key takeaways
- The Standard kit has had three list prices on starlink.com: $499 (Oct 27, 2020), $599 (Mar 22, 2022) and $349 (Oct 7, 2024 to today).
- Four sales went below $349, all ended: $0 with a 12-month commitment (Apr–Jun 2025, select areas), $175 (Aug 11 to Sep 12, 2025), $89 in low-demand areas (from Sep 13, 2025) and $279 with a Roam plan (holiday 2025).
- Prices have gone up as well as down. The 2022 increase to $599 lasted about two and a half years.
- On Oct 5, 2026, starlink.com's national listing also showed a $0-up-front rental, and some addresses see only that.
- The record shows what happened, not what will. We don't forecast prices.
The Starlink Standard kit has had three list prices on starlink.com since launch: $499 from Oct 27, 2020, $599 from Mar 22, 2022, and $349 from Oct 7, 2024, which was still the purchase price on Oct 5, 2026. Below that list line, four sales came and went: $0 with a 12-month commitment, $175, $89 and $279. All of them have ended. Here is every point with its date and source, and what the pattern does and doesn’t tell you.

The first six rows are in our price-drop table, which is also downloadable as a CSV under CC BY 4.0. The holiday row comes from our deals log. “List” is the everyday price with no end date; “sale” is a time-limited or regional price. A sale doesn’t move the list line, which is why the $349 list price ran straight through 2025 even as sales went far below it.
2020: $499 at launch
Our first data point is Oct 27, 2020: the Standard kit at $499 during Starlink’s public beta, per findcheapbroadband.com’s fee history. This is our starting line, not necessarily the very first price anyone paid; earlier beta testers may have had different terms we can’t source.
2022: up to $599
On Mar 22, 2022, the kit went up, to $599 for new orders. CNBC reported it on Mar 23, 2022, with SpaceX citing inflation. It’s worth remembering when someone says Starlink prices only go down: this increase lasted about two and a half years, longer than any sale in our log.
2024: down to $349
On Oct 7, 2024, the list price dropped from $599 to $349. highspeedinternet.com reported it on Oct 9, 2024. That’s still the list price: satelliteinternet.com reported $349 for purchase on starlink.com when we checked on Oct 5, 2026. We hold that as a secondary source because starlink.com renders its prices with JavaScript.
2025: four sales below the list
2025 was the year of temporary prices.
$0 with a commitment (Apr 30 – Jun 25, 2025). In select areas, parts of New England and the Mountain West, Starlink waived the kit price for customers who committed to 12 months of Residential service. Leave early and you owed a prorated change fee. One source gave a later end date (Jul 14, 2025), so our log flags the conflict. The full terms.
$175, half off (Aug 11 – Sep 12, 2025). A nationwide kit price, with discounted first-year plans in mapped areas. The plan discount was lost if you changed, paused or cancelled.
$89 in low-demand areas (from Sep 13, 2025). Tesla North reported it as the lowest outright purchase price ever, in low-demand states (reported as ID, IA, KS, NE, NV, NM, ND, SD and WY), with first-year plan discounts. Sources disagreed on which plan was discounted to $59 a month. No end date was published; it’s no longer in the listing.
$279 for the holidays (Nov 11, 2025 – Jan 19, 2026). starlink.com’s holiday price, with a Roam plan. Home Depot sold the kit alone at $279 by Nov 17, 2025. Black Friday 2025 in one table.
2026: no sale, but a rental
Our log has no Standard kit sale on starlink.com in 2026 through Oct 5. What changed instead was how people can get the kit:
- A $0-up-front rental appears in starlink.com’s national listing (seen Oct 5, 2026). Starlink owns the kit; you return it within 30 days of cancelling.
- A monthly rental fee of $10 was added around Jun 9, 2026, then cut to $0 in select areas from about Jul 20, 2026.
- Purchase isn’t offered at every address; some see rental only.
So the “price” of a Standard kit in 2026 depends on whether you can buy it, want to rent it, or buy it at a store (Home Depot $349, Best Buy $349.99 and Walmart $349, all seen Oct 5, 2026 in search results and marked unclear).
How to read this record
Sales are short and often regional. Of the four 2025 sales, one was select areas, one was low-demand areas, one needed a Roam plan, and only the $175 half-off was a plain nationwide price. Their lengths ranged from about a month to about ten weeks.
List-price changes are rare and long-lived. Three list prices in six years. Each lasted between about one and a half and two and a half years so far.
Increases happen. The 2022 change went up by a hundred dollars. Monthly plans also rose in May 2026. A falling kit price doesn’t mean everything is getting cheaper.
Gaps aren’t flat lines. Between two sourced points, the price may have moved without a source we trust. That’s why our chart joins points with steps and the table is the record. If you know of a sourced change we’re missing, send a correction.
Store prices against the starlink.com record
Our store data is thinner than our starlink.com data, but two points line up with the history:
- Holiday 2025: Home Depot sold the Standard kit for $279 by Nov 17, 2025, the same number as starlink.com’s holiday price that week. The difference was the condition: starlink.com’s $279 needed a Roam plan, while Home Depot’s was the kit alone.
- October 2026: Home Depot ($349), Walmart ($349) and Best Buy ($349.99) all sat at starlink.com’s list price, per search results read on Oct 5, 2026.
We have no sourced store price below starlink.com’s price on the same date. That doesn’t prove stores never undercut; it means we haven’t seen a source showing it. A single low-authority report of a $175 Costco warehouse price (Feb 17, 2026) is in the log as unclear and isn’t part of the starlink.com record.
Using the data yourself
The price-drop CSV has one row per sourced starlink.com price, with six columns: date, item (kit or mini), type (list or sale), price_usd, what_happened and source (a URL). It’s licensed CC BY 4.0, so you can reuse it with attribution to Starlink Deals USA. Two cautions if you chart it:
- Plot steps, not lines. A straight line between Oct 2020 and Mar 2022 would suggest a gradual rise that never happened. Prices jump.
- Keep sales separate from the list. Averaging a regional $89 sale into the list price would describe a price almost nobody paid.
What the history means if you’re buying now
| You want | The record says |
|---|---|
| To buy outright at list | $349 has been the list since Oct 2024; there’s no sourced sign it’s about to change, and we don’t predict it |
| The lowest price and can wait | Every sale below $349 so far has been temporary; last holiday’s was $279 with a Roam plan |
| Nothing up front | The $0 rental is live in the national listing; it’s not a sale, and it’s not ownership |
| A store kit | Stores matched starlink.com’s list in Oct 2026; Home Depot matched the $279 holiday price last November |
If you’re deciding whether to wait for the holidays, wait or buy now applies this record to the decision. For the Mini, which has a very different history, see the Mini’s price history.
Common mistakes reading kit price history
- Treating a sale as the price. $89 and $175 were real but temporary, and $89 was regional.
- Ignoring the conditions. $0 needed a 12-month commitment; $279 needed a Roam plan.
- Assuming the trend continues. Prices went up in 2022 and plans went up in 2026.
- Comparing a rental to a purchase. $0 up front is not $0 to own.
What we don’t know
- Prices before Oct 27, 2020.
- The exact end of the $89 low-demand price.
- The exact end of the $0 commitment kit (Jun 25 or Jul 14, 2025).
- Whether purchase will remain available at most addresses as rentals spread.
