Buying Starlink at Home Depot: shelf price, listing date and what the receipt won't include
What Home Depot lists, why we mark those prices unclear, what a store kit can't get, and a checklist to run before you pay.
We may earn a referral reward from a link on this page. How we make money.
Key takeaways
- On Oct 5, 2026 Home Depot listed the Standard kit at $349 ($299 with $50 off for opening a new Home Depot card) and the Mini at $249. Both prices came from search results, so we mark them unclear.
- The Standard kit costs about the same on starlink.com. The Mini is about $100 cheaper on starlink.com, which listed it from $149 since Oct 2, 2026.
- The receipt covers hardware only. You still order and pay for the plan on starlink.com, and a store kit can never get the referral free month.
- Home Depot's return window for Starlink is either 90 days or 30 days for some electronics. We could not confirm which, so ask before you pay.
- Home Depot made sense last November, when it sold the Standard kit for $279. At list price it rarely beats starlink.com for a first-time customer.
Home Depot sells both Starlink kits. On Oct 5, 2026 its website listed the Standard kit at $349 (or $299 with $50 off for opening a new Home Depot credit card) and the Mini at $249. The receipt covers the hardware only: the monthly plan is ordered and billed on starlink.com, and a store kit never qualifies for the referral free month.
That makes Home Depot a fine place to buy when it runs a real sale, and usually not the cheapest place the rest of the year. Here is what the listings say, what they leave out, and how to decide at the shelf.
What Home Depot lists (seen Oct 5, 2026)
| Item | Home Depot listing | starlink.com, same week | Status in our log |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard kit | $349 ($299 with new-card discount) | $349 to buy, where purchase is offered | Unclear |
| Mini kit | $249 | From $149 (since Oct 2, 2026) | Unclear |
Two things stand out.
The Standard kit is at price parity. Home Depot’s $349 matches the national purchase price satelliteinternet.com reported for starlink.com (we hold that as a secondary source, because starlink.com renders its prices only with JavaScript). Some addresses don’t see a purchase option at all on starlink.com, only a rental with $0 up front. If that’s your situation, the store is one of the few ways to own the kit outright.
The Mini is not. Starlink cut the Mini to a “starts at” price of $149 on Oct 2, 2026, with a Roam plan. Three days later Home Depot still showed $249. Store tags often lag an online cut; we have no data on how long this gap will last, and we don’t predict it. If you’re buying a Mini, check the Home Depot page on the day. If the gap is still there, it’s a $100 difference on the box alone.
Why we mark these prices “unclear”
Home Depot’s product pages don’t open for automated checks, so both prices above come from search-result snippets of homedepot.com, read on Oct 5, 2026. A snippet can be days old, can show an online-only price, and can miss a store-level markdown. Until a person opens the page or stands at the shelf, we label the row “unclear” in the deals log rather than “live.”
That label doesn’t mean the price is wrong. It means you should trust the shelf tag or the cart total over us, and over any other site that quotes Home Depot without a date. If you see a different price, a correction with a photo and the date helps every reader.
What the receipt covers, and what it doesn’t
A Starlink kit from Home Depot is the same hardware Starlink ships. What changes is who sold it to you, and that has four consequences.
- You own the kit. There’s no rental to return when you cancel. Some rental kits can’t use Standby, Starlink’s paused mode; an owned kit can (Standby was $10/mo per a May 2026 report).
- The plan is still Starlink’s. You activate in the Starlink app and choose a plan on starlink.com. Residential started at $55/mo for 100 Mbps, $85/mo for 200 Mbps and $130/mo for Max when we checked on Oct 5, 2026. Home Depot has no say in the monthly price.
- The demand surcharge still applies. Starlink charges a one-time surcharge in high-demand areas when you buy, activate, change plan or move into one. It follows your service address. Buying the box at a store doesn’t skip it. Starlink publishes no fixed amount; your checkout or activation screen shows it.
- No referral free month. Starlink’s support page says kits bought from retailers don’t qualify and credits are only issued for sign-ups on starlink.com.
If you have never had Starlink, point 4 is the one that decides most comparisons. One month of your plan is worth $55 to $130 depending on the tier you pick. Enter your own plan price in the store vs starlink.com tool instead of trusting a round number.
The $50 card discount: who it helps
The $299 price isn’t a sale. It’s Home Depot’s new-account discount for its consumer credit card. WTOP’s August 2026 review of the card describes the current tiers, running through Jan 27, 2027: a new cardholder gets $50 off a purchase in the range a Starlink kit falls into. The card has no annual fee and offers six months of deferred interest on purchases of $299 or more.
Deferred interest is the catch. If any of the balance is left when the promotional period ends, interest is typically charged back to the purchase date, not just on what’s left. So:
- It helps if you wanted a Home Depot card anyway and will pay the $299 in full, ideally on the first statement.
- It’s neutral if you’d open the card only for this and close it later. You saved $50 and added a credit inquiry.
- It hurts if you’ll carry the balance. The interest can erase the discount.
We go through the numbers line by line in Home Depot’s $299 with a card vs starlink.com’s $349.
Home Depot’s sales history
The price on the shelf today isn’t the best Home Depot has done.
| When | Item | Home Depot price | What starlink.com charged |
|---|---|---|---|
| By Nov 17, 2025 (Black Friday) | Standard kit | $279 | $279 with a Roam plan |
| By Nov 17, 2025 (Black Friday) | Mini | $229 | $229 |
| Seen Oct 5, 2026 | Standard kit | $349 ($299 with card) | $349 |
| Seen Oct 5, 2026 | Mini | $249 | From $149 |
Both 2025 rows have ended. They’re the deepest store prices we have a source for, and they matched starlink.com’s own holiday prices that season rather than beating them. The full season is in Starlink Black Friday 2025. Whether Home Depot repeats a sale this November is unknown; we only log offers once a source shows them.
The return window: 90 days or 30?
Home Depot’s general policy gives 90 days for most items and 30 days for some consumer electronics. A 2024 satelliteinternet.com guide said Starlink gets 90 days. We couldn’t confirm whether the electronics rule covers Starlink today, and Home Depot’s own page doesn’t name it.
Treat 30 days as your working deadline until the receipt or the service desk says otherwise. That happens to match starlink.com’s own policy: a full hardware refund if the kit comes back undamaged within 30 days. The difference is who processes it. A Home Depot kit goes back to Home Depot. Starlink won’t take it. Cancelling your Starlink service is a separate step in the app, and returning the box doesn’t cancel the plan. Our side-by-side return guide compares all four stores.
A checklist before you pay
- Photograph the price. A dated photo of the shelf tag or cart total is your evidence if the register rings differently or the price drops next week.
- Check starlink.com for your address. Regional promos, rentals and the activation fee show only at checkout for a specific address. We never ask for yours.
- Read the return window printed on the receipt before you open the box.
- Card offer: decide on the card first, then the kit. Don’t let a $50 discount talk you into a credit line.
- Online orders: make sure the listing says it’s sold by Home Depot. A marketplace seller sets its own return rules.
- Keep the receipt with the serial number from the box. Returns and any warranty questions start there.
When Home Depot is the right choice
- You’ve had Starlink before. The referral free month is only for people who have never been subscribers, so the store loses nothing on that line.
- Home Depot runs a real sale. A $279 Standard kit like last November’s is the kind of price that can beat starlink.com’s list price even for a first-time customer.
- You need to own a Standard kit and starlink.com only offers you a rental. Ownership means Standby and no return obligation when you cancel.
- You want it today. Pickup beats shipping when the router just died.
When it’s the wrong choice
- You’re buying a Mini this month. At $249 against $149 online, the store costs more on the box alone.
- You’ve never had Starlink and the prices are equal. The same $349 at both places isn’t equal once one side includes a free month of service.
- You’d open the card and carry a balance. Deferred interest turns the discount into a cost.
What we don’t know
- Whether Home Depot’s shelf prices match the snippets we read on Oct 5, 2026, store by store.
- Which return window Home Depot applies to Starlink today.
- Whether Home Depot will match starlink.com’s $149 Mini, and when. We’ll add a row to the deals log the day a source shows it.
What to do next
Our Home Depot store page keeps the current listings, past sales and the return rule in one place, and updates when a row changes. Type the Home Depot shelf price and your plan price into the store vs starlink.com tool for a line-by-line answer. If you already bought at Home Depot and just learned about the free month, your options after a store purchase covers what you can still do. For the Mini specifically, the $149 Mini: what the price includes explains the plan condition that comes with the online price.
Questions people ask
Does Home Depot sell Starlink?
Yes. On Oct 5, 2026 homedepot.com listed the Starlink Standard kit and the Starlink Mini kit. We read those listings through search results, so check the product page or the shelf for the current price and stock at your store.
How much is Starlink at Home Depot?
The Standard kit was listed at $349, or $299 with $50 off for opening a new Home Depot credit card, and the Mini at $249, both seen Oct 5, 2026. The monthly plan is extra and is billed by Starlink.
Is Starlink cheaper at Home Depot than on starlink.com?
For the Standard kit, the list price is about the same. For the Mini, no: starlink.com listed it from $149 against Home Depot's $249. A first-time customer ordering on starlink.com can also get the referral free month, which a store kit can't.
Can I use the Home Depot card offer on a Starlink kit?
The $299 price in the listing assumes the new-account discount. That discount is a credit card application, and the card's promotional financing is deferred interest. Use it only if you want the card and will pay the balance in full.
What is Home Depot's return policy for Starlink?
Home Depot gives 90 days for most items and 30 days for some consumer electronics. A 2024 guide said Starlink gets 90 days, but we couldn't confirm whether the 30-day electronics rule applies. Ask at the service desk and check your receipt.
Does a Home Depot Starlink kit get the free month?
No. Starlink only issues referral credits for sign-ups on starlink.com. Kits from retailers don't qualify, and support can't add the credit later.
