What changed
Starlink announced Router 4 on Sep 9, 2026, its first router with a Wi-Fi 7 chipset. According to Tesla North's report of the announcement, it covers up to 3,500 square feet indoors and supports more connected devices than earlier Starlink routers; other coverage of the launch puts the figure at up to 510 devices.
Availability is listed as "available soon in select areas", with an email sign-up for updates. No price, ship date or country list was announced, and the announcement didn't say which kits will include it or whether current customers can upgrade.
This is a router, not a new dish. Starlink's current Standard kit ships with its own router, so Router 4 matters mostly for coverage inside larger homes.
"Router 4 is the first Starlink router with a Wi-Fi 7 chipset, built for streaming, gaming, and everyday use."
Who it affects
Buyers deciding when to order. If Router 4 starts shipping in new kits, store stock with the older router may get discounted, which is worth watching around Black Friday.
Current customers with Wi-Fi dead zones. There's no announced upgrade offer yet.
What you can do now
Nothing yet. Don't pay a premium anywhere for "Router 4" until Starlink publishes a US price.
If you buy a kit at a store, check which router the box lists and keep your receipt; store return windows are on our store comparison page.
What hasn't changed
Kit prices are unchanged: the Standard kit is $349 to buy where purchase is offered, and the Mini is $149 on starlink.com since Oct 2. The Mini has its Wi-Fi built in and isn't affected.
Context
Wi-Fi 7 is the newest Wi-Fi standard. Its gains show up mostly with newer phones and laptops that support it, and in homes with many devices competing for airtime. It doesn't make the satellite link itself faster: your plan's speed and the network's capacity still set the ceiling. On the 100 Mbps Residential plan, for example, a faster router won't lift you past 100 Mbps.
For deal hunters, new hardware can matter at clearance time. If new kits start shipping with Router 4 and a store discounts kits with the older router, we'll log that price only once we can source it, with the date, in the deals log.
What we don't know yet
- The US price, and whether it will be sold separately, included in new kits, or both.
- Whether existing customers will get a discounted or free upgrade path.
- When "select areas" will include the US.
